Hurricane Gustav Track
Hurricane Gustav is currently Tropical Storm Gustav as it continues to churn off the coast of Haiti. The storm is moving toward the west-northwest at 3mph but slowly increase in forward momentum. Overnight the winds are expected to intensify and may be at hurricane status again by the time it enters the Gulf this weekend.
Gustav should pass between Cuba and Jamaica tomorrow and continue on to the Cayman Islands. At this time, Gustav is likely to threaten the U.S. gulf Coast by Monday, Labor Day.
Jamaica and most of Haiti are currently under tropical storm warnings. However, southeast Cuba is under a hurricane warning and hurricane watches have been issued for Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. Gustav could possibly be a very dangerous storm by the time it makes landfall on the U.S. Gulf Coast, but it is too early to tell just how strong it will be.

I have become fascinated with hurricanes over the past several years. Try as we might, they are unpredictable and leave behind much devastation. I began watching a site called hurricanecancun.com. They document information on storm activity before, during and after any hurricanes come near their area. They have documented some pretty detailed events. I am not sure if there is a similar site for our states in the Gulf area, but I think it would be helpful.
